Retailers slashed prices on alredy discounted items today, hoping to draw in year-end sales after a dismal holiday-shopping season. Among some of the after-Christmas sales:
# J.C. Penney welcomed bargain hunters starting at 5:30 a.m., offering deals such as 70% off jewelry.
# Sears is offering up to 75% off on electronics and 50% off on Craftsman tool storage chests.
# Barnes & Noble is offering 50% to 90% off thousands of books and calendars
# Neiman Marcus is offering 40% off selected sale items.
# Crate & Barrel is promising savings of up to 70%.

In the war for holiday shopping dollars, Barneys has just bested Saks by increasing their markdowns to 75% off. An informant writes: "Barneys designer at 75% began yesterday. That means suits around $600, shirts between $70-150, blazers for $300 from their most expensive designers (women's is on sale too). Plus you can return stuff if you regret it. Much, much better than the warehouse sale.
