‘Good Boy’ Marc Jacobs Offers Bad Girl Looks for Vuitton» view comments

Marc Jacobs must henceforth be known as the Good Boy of fashion. He eats healthily, exercises, and starts his shows promptly on time — after years of less-than-healthy living and severe tardiness.

For the record, his show for Louis Vuitton, scheduled for 2:30 today, started at 2:37 pm. Though technically seven minutes late, it is in reality at least 23 minutes early, according to the way most fashion-show attendees calculate their schedules. Hence guests scrambled to their seats as the first models stepped on to the runway.

Derelicte Is Upon Us, Courtesy of Alexander McQueen» view comments

The runway at Alexander McQueen's show in Paris yesterday snaked around a heap of trash. The garbage motif carried over to the styling: Models' heads were affixed with cans, wrapped in Saran Wrap, or served as balances for wheel rims and what looked like deranged manhole covers. And the nylon of one black dress was made to look like black garbage bags. So it only took Mugatu's Derelicte collection from Zoolander eight years to transcend the cinematic world of make-believe. Which brings us a great sense of inner peace.

Trendspotting Paris: Intergalactic Chic» view comments

Some of the most forward-thinking designers in Paris are casting a wistful backward glance at the swashbuckling universe of Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon. Their collections, costume extravaganzas , actually - are filled with telling references to the kind of mid-20th century sci-fi futurism that had its genesis in the depression years. Models tricked out like astral voyagers in metallic jumpsuits and moon boots are suited up heroically for uncertain times ahead

Milan Fashion Week: Optimism In Perspective» view comments

As Milan Fashion Week drew to a close, designers paid not-so-subtle tribute to style idols past and present. Perhaps it's just a statement of the times, but the resounding emphasis on historical perspective seemed to offer an optimistic reassurance for a struggling global economy.
